This action-packed 4-day tour is an epic journey from the imperial north to the vibrant south, connecting the cities of Fes and Marrakech. It masterfully combines the raw beauty of the Sahara Desert with the dramatic landscapes of the Atlas Mountains. You’ll experience the profound silence of the dunes, discover ancient fortified villages, and immerse yourself in rich Berber culture through music, nomadic hospitality, and bustling markets, all while traversing some of Morocco’s most scenic and ever-changing routes.
Your desert adventure begins with a morning departure from Fes. Journey south, ascending into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in the alpine-style town of Ifrane and then continue to the cedar forests of Azrou to spot wild Barbary macaques. After lunch in Midelt, travel through the stunning Ziz Valley, pausing to admire a panoramic view of its lush oasis. By late afternoon, arrive at the edge of the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes and settle into your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, embark on an exciting 4×4 excursion to explore the landscapes around Erg Chebbi. Visit a local oasis and the seasonal Srij lake before traveling to Khamlia village for a captivating performance of spiritual Gnawa music. A true highlight follows: sharing mint tea with a nomadic Berber family in their traditional tent to learn about their way of life. After lunch, return to the village to begin a memorable camel trek into the heart of the dunes. Pause to witness a spectacular sunset and try sandboarding before arriving at your traditional Berber desert camp for a delicious dinner, local music, and a night under a star-filled sky.
Awake early for a breathtaking desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, return to the village by camel or 4WD. If it’s a market day (Sun, Tues, or Thurs), we will visit the bustling traditional market in Rissani. The journey continues through Berber villages to the magnificent Todra Gorge, where you can take a short walk between its towering canyon walls. After lunch, travel to the picturesque Dades Valley for dinner and your overnight stay.
The final day’s journey takes you through the fragrant Rose Valley and Skoura palm grove. Stop in Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa,” to see the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Next, visit the iconic Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous film location. Explore the ancient streets and have lunch before embarking on the dramatic drive over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka pass. You will arrive in vibrant Marrakech in the late afternoon, concluding your unforgettable adventure.
